Physical Workout
The seven dhatus or tissues of the body uniquely form the basis for understanding the ayurvedic perspective on physiologic health and immunity: rasa - plasma; rakta – blood; mamsa – muscle; meda – adipose tissue; asthi – bone; majja – nerve and connective tissue; and shukra/atharva – reproductive tissue. These each systematically and progressively nourish one another. In this unique offering, Robin shares Vasant Lad’s teaching on the dhatus and constructs practices which embody them fully, providing a way to experience the dhatus within, and build ojas throughout your being. (12 one-hour practices)

This practical workshop offers a deep dive into the relationship between the pelvic and shoulder girdles. In challenging and novel ways, Robin will lead you into the juicy territory that lies within and between them. Practices will highlight efficient means to increase core conditioning by ‘girdling’ the girdles as stabilizing forces for one another. You’ll need a stretch band of medium tension for these practices. A long sturdy scarf or yoga belt could be used as a substitute. Teachers can apply this workshop towards 2.5 hours of YACEP credits.

Pickleball can wreak havoc on the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Epicondilytis, or 'tennis elbow' in particular, has curbed me and some of my friends in our capacity to play fully and frequently. Unsatisfied with feeling handicapped by the tenderness, I have turned all that I know about functional movement and physical rehab to hack into this condition and heal it. The results have been extremely positive. A lessening of symptoms on and off the court and better play. It turns out using the shoulder girdle well and supporting it with the internal and external core muscles is self-protective and creates a more powerful and controlled swing. This mini-class highlights some of the salient points from my exploration process, shared with a small group of student-friends who have reported back that it’s making a difference in their lives too.
