Yoga Therapy is Backed by Science
Research Supports Yoga Therapy for Treating Chronic Pain
Robin became involved in yoga research in 2000, teaming up with Group Health Research Institute for the landmark National Institutes of Health-funded study, Comparing Yoga, Exercise, and a Self-Care Book for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized, Controlled Trial, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in Dec., 2005. The overwhelmingly positive results of this study supported further research, and Robin trained and mentored teachers for a second, larger scale trial utilizing the same protocol she had co-created in 2000.
She has since authored The Essential Low Back Program: Relieve Pain & Restore Health, a 5-CD/Book set based on this protocol design. Robin has continued to work with the GH Research Institute, developing another NIH-funded protocol for Reducing Hot-Flashes for Women in Menopause.
A Randomized Trial Comparing Yoga, Stretching, and a Self-care Book for Chronic Low Back Pain is the second, larger scale study that was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in Oct. 2011, using the same protocol for lower back pain and getting comparable results.
