The Essential Yoga Therapy Therapist Training program takes seasoned, mature, yoga teachers and provides them the skills and knowledge to become competent yoga therapists.

Essential Yoga Therapy is pleased to be entering its fourth cohort of the IAYT Accredited Therapist Training Program starting in Fall 2018. This training has evolved over the past five years and continues to grow and improve as we learn more about how to support dedicated yoga teachers in becoming highly skilled and competent yoga therapists. Rooted in the Viniyoga tradition of adaptive yoga therapy, EYT weaves together yoga philosophy, fascial anatomy, neuroscience, respiratory science, and ayurveda to create a comprehensive and unique orientation to yoga therapy. The entire program offers over 1000 hours of training during seven 10-day modules as well as distance learning assignments.

All applicants for the EYT Therapist Training must have at minimum an RYT200 plus two years teaching experience. Completion of the application process includes: a phone interview with Robin, receipt of your full written application including reference letters, receipt of certification of your prior training. To schedule a phone interview with Robin contact her at:

Robin & her colleagues have created an elegant and expertly conceived curriculum, a deeply supportive atmosphere and a high level of skill development. This is a challenging and thorough program that supports us as students substantially.

Part One - Foundations of Yoga Therapy

Based on the Viniyoga lineage with core alignment principles drawn from the Iyengar tradition, this program is designed to take instructors with their RYT200 and advance them into a vocational level of teaching, capable of working with specialty classes and individuals. Additionally this training will enable teachers to begin cultivating the eye, mind and vocabulary of a yoga therapist through learning how to customize practice.

Foundations of Yoga Therapy comprises three 10-day non-residential modules. Tuition: $5,000 Held at EYT Studio in Fall City, 25 miles east of Seattle

To note: Participation in Foundations does not guarantee placement in Part II of the EYT Therapist Training. This will be based on objective assessment of teaching skills, capacity to interweave and work on a multi-dimensional (kosha) level, and dedication to personal practice and transformation.

The yoga therapy component of Essential Yoga Therapy's courses, classes, instructions, and materials is derived from accreditation by the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and is not derived from any status granted by the Yoga Alliance Registry.

Yoga Therapy in Practice

The second portion of our program is delivered in four 10-day residential modules that meet bi-annually and are held at the beautiful Harmony Hill Retreat Center in Union Washington, two hours from Seattle. Days begin early at 6:30 a.m. with developmental practice and often last until 8:30 p.m. (see outline of a typical day) We pack each day with a combination of practical experience, lecture, discussion, and small group processes which encourage a deep sangha connection among the students and a rich, supportive learning environment. Harmony Hill provides a nurturing atmosphere for us to work at this intensity, serving delicious organic meals and offering beautifully landscaped gardens to walk, with an incredible view of Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains.

What We Offer

Essential Yoga Therapy utilizes the updated distance learning provisions developed by IAYT putting several of our physiology based lectures into webinar format. This enhances our residential learning as we will have more time for practice, experiential processes, and skill development. This allows us to offer over 1,000 hours of education while maintaining the high-touch faculty supervision for practicum, a hallmark of our training.

Each member of our faculty brings extensive knowledge in areas of traditional and complementary medicine and most have their C-IAYT credentials as well. Their depth of understanding of anatomy, physiology, psychology, and ayurveda in relationship to yoga therapy make this a scientifically-based professional training, with strong academic rigor. The EYT training empowers yoga teachers to become skilled and confident in the intricacies of yoga therapy on the physical, psycho-spiritual, and physiologic levels, utilizing the best of yoga, ayurveda and Western body/mind science.
