The Essential Yoga Therapy Therapist Training program takes seasoned, mature, yoga teachers and provides them the skills and knowledge to become competent yoga therapists.

Essential Yoga Therapy will begin it’s seventh cohort of the IAYT-Accredited Therapist Training Program in Fall, 2025. Click here, if you’d like to apply and be considered for early admission.

Essential Yoga Therapy is committed to high quality education and a vibrant, cohesive learning experience for all of its students. For this reason, we have restructured the entirety of our IAYT-Accredited Yoga Therapy Program into a hybrid format, combining the best aspects of both online and residential learning. Striking the right balance between in-person and virtual learning ensures a safe, accessible, and connected mode of delivery that supports our students in gaining the skills and competencies they need to succeed as professional yoga therapists. The new format encompasses all of the original content that has been our hallmark for ten years. We offer ongoing connection through online weekly lectures, discussions, group experiential practices, and mentor support. These are intermixed with three residential immersions over the three year training period. EYT is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and DEI is an integral part of our training. We are committed to making yoga therapy accessible to all communities and all people in a respectful and supportive manner.

Rooted in the Viniyoga tradition of adaptive yoga therapy, EYT weaves together yoga philosophy, fascial anatomy, neuroscience, respiratory science, and ayurveda to create a comprehensive and unique orientation to yoga therapy. The training is divided into two parts: Foundations of Yoga Therapy and Applications of Yoga Therapy.

Foundations of Yoga Therapy will be delivered as a combination of in-person and online training over the course of 18 months. The next Foundations training will begin in the Fall of 2025. The hybrid training will intermix monthly and weekly online learning with two in-person week long residencies to be held on Whidbey Island outside Seattle. Residencies will be catered by Aria Peterman, EYT’s Ayurvedic chef.

Robin and the Foundations Team will host an online Open House Q&A event in Spring of 2024 to field questions from those who are interested in applying for the 2025 cohort. You’ll hear from current students, faculty, and mentors about how this training has transformed their lives and prepared them to provide healing support to others as professional yoga therapists.

The 2025 training will be limited to 20 students in order to ensure the high-quality mentorship support, which is a hallmark of EYT training programs.

Pre-requisites to Apply to Foundations:

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching as an RYT, basic training in anatomy, physiology and yoga philosophy.

  • Commitment to the full three-year EYT program.

  • Stamina for academic rigor, dedication to personal practice and a capacity to meet challenges with curiosity, determination and enthusiasm.

In January 2022, Robin and the Foundations Team hosted an online Open House Q&A event. Applicants are encouraged to click here to listen to the recording of this informative session. You’ll hear from current students, faculty, and mentors about how this training has transformed their lives and prepared them to provide healing support to others as professional yoga therapists.

Entry into Applications of Yoga Therapy requires a Certificate of Graduation from Foundations of Yoga Therapy. This portion of the program builds on the concepts and processes laid out in Foundations. It will be delivered online, enabling you to learn from the comfort of your own home while growing your professional practice within your community. At the completion of Applications, we will gather once again at the Whidbey Institute for a 4-day celebratory reunion and final integration of skills, culminating our three years of learning and growing together. The Applications portion requires a two-year commitment.

There is now an audit option for C-IAYTs to participate in Applications. (click here for more information)
